Atmosphere - When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold

Photobucket

OK, I suck at writing reviews but I'm pretty bored and I'm gona have a shot. Anyway, heres Atmosphere's 5th studio album 'When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold' and it was worth the 3 year wait. Like the Slug we know, most, if not all the songs are narratives but still personal. It's pretty obvious that he loves telling stories, but he takes it up a step further by actually publishing a children's book with this album lol . As for Ant, I really haven't heard him speak, I don't know if I don't watch enough of there interviews or videos but every time I look at him I always imagined him as a mute lol. Anyway his production is still on key with Slug, I've also noticed that he uses the synths a fair bit with some of the songs, I never imagine synths with Slug but I enjoy it, it shows that they've really come far from the 'boom bap' and soul influences . Whats even better is that they don't saturate the album with it and stay true to their roots. What also surprises me is that Slug even sings, yes sings in a couple of the chrouses. Besides the songs with the heavy synths, comparing this album to the last release, it's a lot more chill IMO. You know what else surprises me? after a several hours listening to this album I can't believe how much I can relate to some of the songs, but not 'directly' if you what mean. One thing no doubt is that this is my new favourite album of 2008 and will mos def' be on my top 10 and the end of the year, treat this shit now.
