Who would've thought Gospel Rap could be actually good? Sharlok Poems, better known as 'Poems', records an album thats made of win. Blooming Sounds was actually released on th 27th Nov last year, I know kinda late? Anyway, between all the genres I listen to, I'd say Hip Hop would be my favourite, and people like Sharlok is the reason why. When I look for something fresh, rap with a positive message and seem to be the first thing on my mind. Don't get me wrong, N.W.A and Dr. Dre were dope, but theres barely any other rappers who can be gangster and be original at the same time anymore. Sherlock, on the other hand epitomizes originality in Hip Hop, especially Gospel Hip Hop. When you hear 'Gospel Hip Hop', you'd think that there would be too much religious preaching and it usually is which seem out-dated. But not Sharlok, this poet spits truth with love, peace, and up lifting messages, with a couple of battle raps. Being labeled as Gospel Rap, preaching about God is in Blooming Sounds is subtle, focusing more on stories to relate with. The production here is flawless, the jazz influenced beats work waay too well with Sharlok. All in all Sharlok is no doubt a breathe of fresh air, I hope this guy gets the attention he deserves. To any Hip Hop heads out there, treat this shit.
Shout out to Martin, I found Blooming Sounds playing in his profile and I was automatically hooked, thanks broooooooo.
